Outer Banks Treasures: OBX Crabbing & Billy's SeafoodAug 06, 2011
Everyone loves a free dinner, right? Ok, it's not entirely free, you may have to spend a couple bucks for chicken necks and a string, but it's tough to find an easier catch than blue crabs on the Outer Banks. For our latest installment the Outer Banks Treasures video series, we're going to focus on OBX crabbing. But really, it's a 2 for 1 deal because we'll also focus on Billy's Seafood in Kill Devil Hills. Billy's Seafood is definitely deserving of it's own Outer Banks Treasures focus, but it works so closely with OBX crabbing and the secret spot I'm going to point out that I decided to give a little bonus with this treasure. Blue crabs are an OBX favorite. You can have them prepared for you at most local OBX restaurants, you can purchase them at a local OBX seafood shop and prepare them yourself, or you can head over to the Sound, enjoy a fun outdoor activity, and catch your dinner yourself...I prefer the latter! The Outer Banks Sound is full of blue crabs. The trick is knowing where to catch them. There are a wide variety of great spots, but I'll focus on one secret spot that is off the beaten path that has proven successful track record. I'll start with a point of reference that is easy to find, the gate at the Wright Brother's museum on Rt. 158 (ie the "highway" in OBX lingo). Head south from the gate at the Wright Brothers museum, and take a right at the first set of lights (Dairy Queen on your left, Kangaroo gas station on your right) onto Colington Rd. Colington ...

CCA Game Fish MythMay 04, 2012
Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) has been sequestering and out right stealing American seafood resources for 35 years. County by county and state by state, CCA has stock piled fishery resources for the sole use of its clients. The average American consumer has been deprived of their rights in our free market economy. Now listed as game fish in many states, citizens can no longer purchase many American seafood products such as red drum in seafood markets. Contact your Congressman and state legislators and tell them to STOP this thievery of our American seafood resources.

You may be surprised at just how much variety the Outer Banks fishing piers offer, and with the arrival of the new Jennette's Pier, the piers have been taken to an entirely new level of fun, education, amazing views, and world-class fishing. For today's installment, we're going to turn the "Spotlight" on the Outer Banks Fishing Piers. The five fishing piers located on the northern beaches of the Outer Banks are Kitty Hawk, Avalon, Nags Head, Jennette's and Outer Banks Fishing Pier, all of which are unique. The Kitty Hawk Pier is now privately owned and part of the Hilton Garden Inn. The pier is still available for daily fishing, and the gorgeous pier house can be booked through the Hilton for private events...an awesome spot for an Outer Banks wedding! The Avalon Pier is located on the Oceanfront in Kill Devil Hills, at Mile Post 6. It is 696 feet long. The pier is usually open from 5:00 am -- 2:00 am during the summer months. During the Spring and Fall, they open at 6:00 am and close when things slow down which is usually right before 10:00 pm ...
